White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Spring Screen presents
THURSDAY MAY 27TH
NACHO LIBRE (2006)
DIRECTOR: Jared Hess
STARRING: Jack Black, Ana de la Reguera, Héctor Jiménez, Silver King & Peter Stormare.
From the husband and wife team that brought you Napoleon Dynamite, alongside the writer of School Of Rock, Nacho Libre is the anti-dote to the run of the mill comedies that populate Hollywood. A rare film that properly exploits Jack Black's natural comedic talents it's idiosyncratic humour is complimented by it's affectionate depiction of Mexican Lucha Libre culture through the film's surprisingly attractive photography, production design and colour palette. Featuring hilarious no holds barred comedy from bell to bell Jack Black tells the tale (based on a true story!) of a catholic monk who pursues a secret career between the ropes as a masked Luchadore, not only to pursue his dream of being a professional wrestler but to earn money to support the kids at the orphanage he works at by day. Wildly funny this eccentric gem is stacked with a combination of brilliant offbeat humour, visual charm & anarchic silliness that make it a modern comedy classic.
