White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Summer Screen presents

DIRECTOR: William Friedkin

STARRING: Al Pacino, Paul Sorvino, and Karen Allen.

PART OF THE OUTSIDER SEASON / Wednesdays in June -  A season of films focusing on misunderstood or controversial movies by outsider directors.

William Friedkin noted director of The French Connection and The Exorcist teams up with Al Pacino (who was still in the midst of an extraordinary hot streak of great movies) for this thriller about a serial killer on the loose in New York's underground S&M scene. Pacino gives a typically (for this era) brilliant performance as an undercover cop who is tasked with donning the leather and infiltrating the underground scene to track down the murderer, all the while struggling with his own identity. Causing outrage and crashing at the box office upon its original release Friedkin's Cruising has in more recent years been reclaimed and reappraised as a document of the lost world of leather bars and cited by several directors as among their all time favourites including The Safdie Brothers (Uncut Gems), Quentin Tarantino, and Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive) who has declared it 'a masterpiece'.
