In 2007 photographer John Maloof would chance upon a vast box of negatives at an auction house/thrift store across the street from his home. After winning the lot and exploring the contents, it would transpire that he had stumbled across the work of complete unknown Vivian Maier, a secretive nanny who documented life on the streets of 50s and 60s Chicago and told no one of her clandestine passion for photography. Maloof set about bringing Maier's work to light only to discover that his own opinion of what he thought was an astonishing collection of art was shared by the world at large garnering Maier a posthumous reputation as one of the 20th centuries greatest photographers. Part art exhibit, part detective story Finding Vivian Maier showcases the most remarkable images from this newly discovered cache of 100,000 pieces of street photography as well as attempting to follow the breadcrumbs to find out who this astonishingly talented and highly secretive woman was.
