White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Autumn Screen presents
WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 4TH
WOMEN IN HISTORY WEDNESDAYS
DIRECTOR: Sofia Coppola
STARRING: Kirsten Dunst, Jason Schwartzman, Judy Davis, Rip Torn, Rose Byrne, Asia Argento, Molly Shannon, Shirley Henderson, Danny Huston, and Steve Coogan.
Lost In Translation and On The Rocks director Sofia Coppola eschews the traditional stuffy trappings of period dramas in favour of this confection coloured ornately gilded visual treat of a movie powered by an undercurrent of new wave / post punk style, not least from it's soundtrack that takes in the likes of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Adam and the Ants, Gang of Four, The Cure, The Strokes and New Order. A breath of fresh air from a master of visual style Coppola's youthful energy perfectly compliments the story of the ill fated, french queen (played by a magnectic Kirsten Dunst) who was married at 15 and became ruler of France at only age 19. Marie Antoinette's pre-revolution indulgence is explored through Coppola's beautiful and playful lens that captures the apprehension and exuberance of the teen queen in one of the most beautiful stylistic cinema exercises of recent years, a visual treat made to be seen on the big screen.
