POP UP CINEMA BRIGHTON
White Wall Cinema presents
FRIDAY NOVEMBER 26TH
PAIN AND GLORY
DIRECTOR: Pedro Almodovar
STARRING: Antonio Banderas, Penélope Cruz, Julieta Serrano, Leonardo Sbaraglia and Asier Etxeandia,
Pedro Almodovar's 21st directorial effort Pain And Glory may well be the crowning achievement of his 40+ year career. Utilising his twin muses of Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz, Almodovar crafts an exquisite semi-autobiographical tale of an ageing film director in the middle of a creative crisis reflecting upon his past. Praise has come from all quarters with critics labelling it 'bittersweet perfection... witty intelligent and sensous' (The Guardian), 'A Masterpiece' (Little White Lies). The film also earned an Oscar nomination for best international feature, Banderas a win for best actor at the Canne film festival and it was also named the best film of the year by Time Magazine. Almodovar's deeply personal and tender ode to motherhood, queer desire and cinema, it is designed to be seen on the big screen as a director beautifully distills and honours his own life and craft in this most sublime piece of film making.
