White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Autumn Screen presents
SATURDAY OCTOBER 31ST
THE MALEVOLENT MUSIC MOGULS SEASON
PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (1974)
DIRECTOR: Brian De Palma
STARRING: Paul Williams, William Finley and Jessica Harper.
A year before The Rocky Horror Picture Show hit screens a lesser known but equally audacious and similarly brilliant movie hit screens. From the director of Carrie, Dressed To Kill and Scarface, Brian De Palma's Phantom Of The Paradise is part Leroux's Phantom Of The Opera, part Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray and part Faust. An outrageous send up of the music industry. it tells the story of evil record producer Swan (played by well known singer/songwriter Paul Williams) who steals the music of songwriter Winslow Leach. A series of unfortunate events eventually lead Winslow to plot his sinister revenge from the shadows of Swan's fabulous rock club The Paradise. A noted inspiration on the likes of Guillermo Del Toro, Daft Punk, and Edgar Wright, and starring Jessica Harper of Suspiria fame, Phantom Of The Paradise is everything you could ever want in a cult classic movie and more. This rare screening of this criminally overlooked rock opera is can't miss experience on Halloween for fans of The Rocky Picture Show and indeed for all lovers of cult cinema.
