White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Summer Screen presents

DIRECTOR: Richard Kelly

STARRING: Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore, and Justin Timberlake.

PART OF THE OUTSIDER SEASON / Wednesdays in June -  A season of films focusing on misunderstood or controversial movies by outsider directors.

From the writer/director of Donnie Darko Richard Kelly's infamous follow up to his to his cult hit is a wild pop art odyssey with a deliberately postmodern choice of cast including Dwayne Johnson, Seann William Scott, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Mandy Moore, and Justin Timberlake with wonderful bit part appearances from the likes of Wallace Shawn, Amy Poehler, Kevin Smith, Janeane Garofalo and MANY more. Despite a savaging at the hands of audiences and conventional movie criticism, Southland Tales has become part of grand tradition of bizarre (and strangely prescient) movies about the absurd world of L.A. (and by extension the U.S.A.) that includes The Long Goodbye, The Big Lebowski and Mullholland Drive. Considered as 'Dr. Strangelove for the Monster Energy generation' (L.A. Mag) it is the story of an actor, a porn star and a cop in a world populated by Marxist revolutionaries, greedy corporations and secretive government agencies. Kelly's gut reaction to a post 9/11 America it's the apocalypse as administered by the likes of McDonalds or Walmart. Here we present the lesser seen 'Cannes Cut', Kelly's original vision for the film.
