White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Summer Screen presents
WEDNESDAY AUGUST 12TH
DIRECTOR: Mike Nichols
STARRING: Anne Bancroft, Dustin Hoffman, Katharine Ross.
One of the finest achievements of modern American cinema The Graduate is one of legendary directors Mike Nichols's masterpieces that both sums up the feelings of an entire generation whilst remaining intensely relevant to successive eras of cinema goers. As fresh and as bold now as it was upon it's release Dustin Hoffman offers a landmark performance as a college graduate Benjamin Braddock returning home only to suffer the sort of post university existential malaise familiar to many, but rarely, if ever, expressed as perfectly as this. Becoming embroiled in an affair with an older married woman only deepens the difficulty, but memorably provides the inspiration for Simon & Garfunkel's classic sound track piece 'Mrs Robinson'. Remastered for it's 50th anniversary The Graduate is littered with iconic dialogue and scenes and is a one-of-a-kind cinematic portrait of America which captured the mood of disaffected youth seething beneath the laid-back exterior of 1960s California and can't miss on the big screen to recapture the thrill of it's once in a generation cultural impact.
