White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Spring Screen presents

FRIDAY JUNE 11TH

THE SHELTERING SKY (1990)

DIRECTOR: Bernardo Bertolucci

STARRING:   Debra Winger and John Malkovich.

Debra Winger and John Malkovich star as a restless 1940s couple who undertake a journey across North Africa. Based on Paul Bowles' extraordinary 1949 novel of the same name it is equal parts sumptuous and stark. The film captures both the extraordinary visual beauty of the landscapes as well as the sense of malaise between its lead characters who embark on both a physical and metaphorical journey of discovery of their relationship and their inner selves. Astonishing cinematography, a striking mood of sensuality, and bravura central performances combine for one of the most alluring and uninhibited movies of the 90s.
