White Wall Cinema's Socially Distanced Autumn Screen presents
FRIDAY OCTOBER 23RD
BLACK HISTORY MONTH SEASON
TO SLEEP WITH ANGER (1990)
DIRECTOR: Charles Burnett
STARRING: Danny Glover, Paul Butler, Mary Alice, Carl Lumbly, Vonette McGee, Richard Brooks, & Sheryl Lee Raplh.
Directed by Charles Burnett, the man The New York Times called ""the nation's least-known great filmmaker and most gifted black director" To Sleep With Anger begins when a visitor and old family friend from the deep south unexpectedly comes to stay with a family in their already overcrowded house in South Central L.A. The visitor Harry (Danny Glover) brings with him a mysterious and somewhat unsettling atmosphere that exposes the divide between the older Southern-raised superstitious family members and the younger generation with a more modern set of ideals. A potent blend of comedy and drama steeped in traditional southern mysticism Danny Glover gives a career best performance at the head of a strong cast in this beautiful, poetic masterpiece, novelistic in its narrative density and richness of characterisation.
