POP UP CINEMA BRIGHTON
White Wall Cinema presents

THURSDAY APRIL 18TH
SILENT RUNNING
-4K RESTORATION
DIRECTOR: Douglas Trumbull
STARRING: Bruce Dern, Cliff Potts, Ron Rifkin, and Jesse Vint.
After years of creating the game-changing special effects for movies like 2001: A Space Odyssey, Close Encounters, and Blade Runner, legendary special effects supervisor Douglas Trumball turned his hand to directing. This, his remarkable debut, casts the irrepressible Bruce Dern (The Driver, The Burbs, Nebraska, The Hateful Eight) as Freeman Lowell, an interstellar botanist and caretaker of the last ecosystem in existence, (now that earth is barren of all flora and fauna) on a space station near Saturn. Featuring Trumbull’s trademark special effects the film is also a wonderfully heartfelt piece featuring ecological themes light years ahead of its time. A cult classic amongst film fans and critics alike, with Mark Kermode listing it as a personal favourite that he prefers over and above Kubrick’s 2001.
